It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the passing of John Wilson on 12 January 2024. John was one of the ASIC founding team, responsible for developing many of our systems and helping us secure approval from the UK Government.

Before joining ASIC, John had for many years been Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Science and Technology at Northumbria University, overseeing a period of important research initiatives in fields such as Solar Energy and Surface Engineering. He was a distinguished physicist in his own right with his books translated into many languages.

Upon our commencement of operations in 2007, he took on the role of Head of Accreditation until his retirement in 2021. John was also very active as an inspector. Institutions consistently valued his rigorous but collegial approach to the inspection process, noting his unfailing courtesy and good humour. Much of the special ethos of ASIC can be traced back to the example set by John.

He will be greatly missed by all of us who worked with him at ASIC. Our condolences go out to his wife Chris, his family, and friends.
